12-10-2003 : FIFA Women's World Cup
Congratulations. The German national team has won the FIFA Women's World Cup. The team beat Sweden in the final by golden goal. Both teams had to go into extra time after an 1:1 at the end of the full time. It took until the 98th minute when Nia Künzer jumped higher and higher to sink the final header into the net to secure Germany's first-ever world championship.
30-09-2003 : "The Rivaldo-Boomerang"
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani announced that the Brazilian star Rivaldo who had been released recently might fulfill his contract now. He returned to the club to play Celta Vigo on 1st October. He wanted to leave the club as he has only been a substitute until now. It's still unsure whether we will stay or move to another club in Europe. Let's wait and see what's coming next.
26.06.2003 - Tragedy at Confederations Cup
Olympique Lyon and Cameron midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe who was on loan at Manchester City last season died on heart attack. Ten minutes from the end of the Confederations Cup semi-final he collapsed on the pitch not been interfered by an opponent. As his heart stopped he was immediately taken to the hospital were the medical staff tried to save his life but without success.
A tragic day for soccer, Cameroon and especially his family.
25.06.2003 - New manager at Real Madrid
Spanish champion Real Madrid have appointed Manchester Utd's assistant manager Carlos Queiroz as their new manager. Queiroz signed a two-year contract. Vicente Del Bosque had been released 24 hours after winning the 29th league title for Real Madrid. His contract expired and the chairman decided not to renew it. The 35 year old manager had been 14 years with the club. Players and fans supported him and protested against tha chairman's decision. Surprisingly also captain Fernando Hierro had been released.
24-06-2003 : New manager at FC Schalke 04
Jupp Heynckes "Don Jupp" left Spanish first division club Athletic Bilbao and finalized his move to German first division club Schalke 04. The former Borussia M'Gladbach, Bayern München and Eintracht Frankfurt manager left Germany in 1995 for Spain. In 1998 he lead Real Madrid to the Champions League title. Later on he moved on to Athletic Bilbao. Heynckes signed a two-year contract until 30 June 2005 with Schalke 04.
23-06-2003 : New manager at FC Barcelona
And the winner is : Frank Rijkaard. Many managers had been listed to take over Spanish club FC Barcelona this summer. Among them was Klaus Toppmöller who lead German club Bayer Leverkusen to the Champions League final in season 2001/2002. Finally former Dutch international star and national team manager Frank Rijaard has won the race and replaces Radomir Antic who has to leave. Rijaard signed a four-year contract with Barcelona. New Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta promised to bring back the success of the golden Barcelona era. Signing Frank Rijkaard is the first step. The second could be another former Dutch star Marco Van Basten who should take over the assistant role. Paris St.Germain star "Ronaldinho" is in negotiations with the club and could be a present for the new manager.
David Backham moves to Real Madrid
After month of speculations it's done. Manchester Utd star David Beckham has agreed to sign a four-year contract with Real Madrid. Real Madrid's Spanish rival FC Barcelona as well as Italian AC Milan failed to secure his signature. Beckham will join his new club on 1 July after passing the medical. Manchester Utd and Real Madrid agreed a fee of 35 million Euro for the English skipper. It's speculated that he will earn 128.000 Euro a week.

After Perugia's u-turn Ahn Jung-Hwan is refusing to return to Perugia. President Luciano Gaucci said the club pulled the contract option which will bind Ahn to the club until 30th June 2005. Gaucci said that if Ahn doesn't come back he won't play anywhere else.

Ahn Jung-Hwan has been reinstated by Perugia's president Luciano Gaucci after he was dismissed last week. After scoring the 'golden goal' against Italy Gaucci announced that the striker would "never set foot in Perugia again". After negotiations the board and Ahn have come to terms which will bring the striker back to the Serie A club. One question comes up: "Will he be happy staying in Italy?"
25-06-02, Ahn and no end :
Perugia u-turn. It seems that Korean hero Ahn Jung-hwan hadn't been released by Perugia. As reported today Perugia's chairman should have said that he wants to renew the contract now. Let's see how the Ahn story continues.

Now it's offical. Korean hero Ahn Jung-hwan had been released by Perugia. Atletico Madrid's president Jesus Gil has revealed his interest in signing him.
19-06-2002, From hero to looser? Release of the month ? :
At the moment it looks like that Ahn Jung-Hwan, who scored the golden goal over Italy to catapult Korea in the World Cup quarter-finals won't get a new contract and is going to be released by his current club Perugia(Ita) as his contract runs out on 30th June. Perugia's chairman Luciano Gaucci will soon decide about Ahn's future at Perugia. It seems like Korean tiger Ahn and hero for millions of Korean fans can leave the club on Bosman rule as on TV was announced that he isn't welcome in Italy any longer. Luciano Gaucci should have been said : "Someone who eliminates Italy won't return to the club." Ahn Jung-Hwan has been listed by various scouts. A bargain !

20-04-2002, English Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award
Arsenal's Robert Pires has scooped the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award.Manchester Utd's Ruud van Nistelrooy finished second and David Beckham third. Arsenal's Thierry Henry claimed the fourth and Liverpool's Sami Hyypia the fifth place.

Manchester Utd's Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named the Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year.Arsenal London's Henry and Pires came second and third. Newcastle's Craig Bellamy has been named the Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year. Bolton's Michael Ricketts came second and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard third.

The 31-year-old Charlton Athletic(Eng) forward Martin Pringle, who has two Swedish international caps, fears his career may be over after suffering a double fracture of his left leg while playing for Grimsby Town FC on loan.

Footballer of the Year 2001
Kashima Antler's Atsushi Yanagisawa has been voted Footballer of the Year for 2001 by Japanese sport writers. His side have won their second consecutive J.League title. He scored 17 goals. 12 for Kashima and 5 for the national team. He might move abroad in the near future. Some Italian clubs are linked to the player.

George Weah to retire?
Before the African Cup 2002 the Liberia manager and star player said that he wants to play the tournament and retire afterwards. Now it finished and the retirement has not officially confirmed. If he actually retires a great player will be missed.
